Located within California Science Center in Exposition Park, the Desert Environment exhibit explores the ecosystems and adaptive life of arid regions, including the fennec fox — a small desert fox native to the Sahara. For the enclosure’s 35-foot curved mural wall, imagery was developed around both the animal and the surrounding human environments shaped by desert survival. Villages formed around oases, together with underground dwellings built in response to extreme heat, were woven into the composition alongside the fox itself, reflecting parallel forms of adaptation between landscape, animal, and human habitation.
